On June 6, 2025, the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County marked Revive Awareness Day with a renewed push to educate residents about naloxone — the medication commonly known as Narcan that can reverse opioid overdoses.
Local health officials emphasized that opioid misuse remains a significant public health challenge across Florida. As part of the initiative, free naloxone kits were made available at county health department locations, and community members were encouraged to learn how to recognize the signs of overdose and respond quickly.

Revive Awareness Day is designed not only to distribute lifesaving medication but also to reduce stigma surrounding addiction. Sarasota health leaders highlighted the importance of community preparedness, noting that bystanders are often the first responders in overdose situations.
Educational materials were distributed across Sarasota, and outreach efforts targeted high-traffic areas as well as community organizations. Officials stressed that naloxone is safe, easy to administer, and legally accessible in Florida without a prescription.
Local advocates praised the county’s proactive approach, saying awareness campaigns like this can save lives. According to state data trends in recent years, opioid-related fatalities have declined when naloxone distribution increases and community education improves.
As Sarasota continues balancing growth with public health challenges, Revive Awareness Day served as a reminder that prevention and preparedness remain critical tools in protecting residents.
