The Sarasota Art Museum opened a major summer exhibition in July celebrating the 100th anniversary of Art Deco design. Titled Art Deco: The Golden Age of Illustration, the exhibit features rare posters, magazine covers, and commercial art from the early 20th century.
The exhibition explores how Art Deco shaped visual culture through bold geometry, stylized figures, and streamlined forms. Visitors have been drawn to iconic illustrations that defined fashion, travel advertising, and modern design aesthetics during the movement’s peak.

Museum officials say the exhibit has attracted both local patrons and summer tourists seeking cultural experiences beyond the beach. The show also includes educational programming, guided tours, and lectures exploring the historical significance of the movement.
As Sarasota continues cultivating its reputation as a cultural destination, major exhibits like this reinforce the city’s appeal as more than a seasonal resort community.
